Project Overview
To repair and restore the surrounding area of a conservation category wetland (CCW), by controlling weeds and feral animals on the site and planting approximately 50 000 local native seedlings.
Methods used
Weeds are to be controlled through chemical means, with consideration of the selection of chemicals for the sensitivity of the site. Feral animals will be controlled through the use of a registered pest controller to reduce the impact on the seedlings that are planted.
The site will have a layer of mulch spread over the soil and the seedlings will be hand planted across the site with tree guards installed to reduce the impact of grazing from pests and kangaroos.
The seedlings will need to be watered over the first summer to increase survival rates.
Expected Outcomes
Once this site has been fully revegetated and restored, it will stand as a haven for wildlife in the area moving through the urban landscape. It is already being used by the endangered Carnaby, Baudins and the Forest Redtail Cockatoos as a feeding site and the additional plants on this site will enhance this function.
The revegetation will also support the existing wetland by providing a buffer to the external urban elements.
