HOT TOPIC FORUM #2
Wednesday 29 July 2026 12.30pm - 3:40pm in-person
Picture this: you've planned and executed a fantastic community planting day and you've got hundreds if not thousands of fresh seedlings in the ground. You tend to the plants by weeding and watering over the hot summer months but as time goes by you begin to lose seedlings one by one. You may wrack your brain trying to figure out why?
Join WALN and a lineup of fantastic presenters as we explore key elements of boosting seedling survival; watering regimes, selecting good quality seedlings and how to assess their health and discussing nursery best practice. This event will have something for all of our groups in the restoration space no matter how big or small, as well as nursery representatives, industry bodies and interested members of the public. While we don't claim to have the silver bullet, we are looking forward to a robust discussion of the factors that go into a successful revegetation project.
Speakers include Bruce Ivers, Bicton Environmental Action Group & Nikita Fredonnet, Curtin University discussing watering trials and utilising soil moisture sensors. Peter White, DBCA, will discuss seedling monitoring and potential methods to asses cause of death. Bill Hollingsworth, Greenlife Industry will discuss working with production nurseries and allied industries to build skills for best management practises.
A full list of speakers and program will be released in the coming weeks.
This event is generously supported by the WA Government's State Natural Resource Management Program and the National Landcare Network.
